SCHOOL FLU SHOTS
Our public health nurses will be in the local school’s throughout the month of October administering influenza vaccinations. The upcoming school flu shot clinic schedule can be found below. Please complete and bring the required form to the applicable flu shot clinic.

School Nurse Sevices
Central Valley Health provides school nursing services to Jamestown Public School District, as well as all the rural school districts in Stutsman and Logan Counties. The school nursing services are funded through the local school district (JPS Only), and city and county government funds.
SERVICES PROVIDED:
- Immunizations
- Health screenings for vision, with referral and follow-up as needed
- Health education and promotion to students and staff
- Administrative consultation and policy development
- Individualized health assessments (illness, accidents, injuries, or infectious disease) through school nurse office visits (JPS only)
RESOURCES
School Exclusion Notifications
Central Valley Health provides guidance to schools and families when an infectious disease is reported in a classroom or child care setting. Our goal is to keep students, staff, and families safe by providing timely and accurate information.
General Exclusion Criteria:
Regardless of the disease, students should be excluded from school if they meet any of the following exclusion criteria:
- Staff determines the child is unwilling or unable to participate in activities due to illness.
- Staff determine that they cannot care for the sick child without compromising their ability to care for the health and safety of the other children in the group.
- The child has an illness suggested by a fever (temperature at or above 101.0°F any location) along with difficulty breathing, changes in behavior, lethargy, irritability, persistent crying, or progressive rash fever.
- The child experiences vomiting two or more times in the preceding 24 hours, unless determined to be caused by a non-communicable condition and the child can remain hydrated and participate in activities.
- The individual has diarrhea and cannot self-contain stool.
Exposure Letters
The Exposure Letters are only to be utilized by the school districts in Stutsman and Logan counties of North Dakota in the event that an infectious diseases is reported in the school setting. The letters are based on guidance from the North Dakota Department of Health and Human Services (NDHHS) and are updated regularly to reflect current recommendations.

Growth & Development
PUBERTY EDUCATION
Central Valley Health school nurses provide growth and development education (also referred to as “puberty education”) opportunities at service area schools regarding puberty, hygiene, growth and development.
The school nurse will utilize materials and resources from the Always Changing and Growing Up evidence-based curriculum to assist in providing this lesson. The Always Changing and Growing Up content is rooted in national research in consultation with school nurses, health educators, parents, and medical professionals and has been a trusted resource for over 35 years.
