Food Service Facilities

The Environmental Health Division licenses and inspects those facilities that provide food service to the public. The goal is to protect human health by reducing the risk of foodborne illness through food safety adherence and education.


Licensed food service facilities are differentiated by their menu offerings and population served into the following categories: Restaurant, School Food Service, and Limited Restaurant. Food service inspections are also provided for other facilities.


Food Safety - Gateway to federal food safety information for emergency situations, food poisoning, and food safety news.
FDA Recalls - Recalls, market withdrawals, and safety alert information on fruits, vegetables, cheeses, and other FDA regulated foods.
USDA Recalls - Information about recalls and public health alerts involving meat, poultry, or processed egg products.

USDA Food and Nutrition - Information on food safety and defense.
Fightbac - Educational material and information regarding safe food handling practices to prevent foodborne illness.

North Dakota Administrative Code 33-33-04.1 requires that the person in charge shall demonstrate knowledge of foodborne disease prevention and application of hazard critical control point principles. One way to fulfill this requirement is by being a certified food protection manager or by passing an accredited test for food protection.
